I THINK I FINALLY FIGURED OUT WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME

I watch a lot of television. This is everything I watch in 2011 that originally aired in 2011. I hate you.

So

I was gonna do a best of/worst of list for this past year, but I definitely don’t care anymore. This blog has been an enormous waste of time, and I pity anyone who’s read even one word of it. Bye!

So I did other stuff in 2011, too

Well, I mean, not really, but I saw some movies and read some comic books and listend to some records. If I spent like 2190 of 2011’s 8760 hours sleeping, then I’m guessing I spent at least 5500 of the remaining 6570 hours being entertained by media of some sort. The leftover 1000 were probably spent on the subway. I lead an incredibly fulfilling life.

long (inter)national nightmare that was originally-televised-in-2011 television programming. I’m officially cutting myself off now that I’m through with Junior Masterchef Australia (season 2, episodes 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21). We had challenges, we had Dinseyland

and, ultimately, we had a winner. She was all

The whole thing was typically adorable and brutally predictable, and I loved every minute of it. Hopefully, next year, I’ll have a girlfriend or something.

OH MY GOD, WE’RE RUNNING OUT OF TIME!!!!!

What the fuck am I gonna do in 5 days when I no longer feel compelled to catalog every half hour/hour of television I watch? This has been one of the stupidest “experiments” of all time, and nothing makes that more apparent than the fact taht I spent hours last night catching up on Junior Masterchef Australia (season 2, episodes 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12). I mean, don’t get me wrong, this is an adorable show full of adorable children cooking food I’ll most likely never be able to produce,

but, yeah, this is not the way anyone should be spending their last day of Christmas vacation.

Regardless, this shit is still pretty wonderful. Not quite as wonderful/novel as last year’s, but fun nonetheless. At the moment (well, at my particular moment; this show is already over), the top 12 kids are off in Hollywood, California cooking for dudes I’ve never heard of (is it weird that I’m now more familiar with Australian chefs than American ones?). All my favorite kids have already been eliminated, but I still find this all endlessly amusing. How many more words do you guys think I can write without actually saying anything? I say thousands!!!!!

So the news that

American Horror Story (season 1, episode 12) is going all anthology style (as in next year won’t resemble this year at all) kinda helped to offset the fact that this particular season finale really wasn’t very good. Not that I was expecting all that much fromt the wrap up of this “story.” I mean, let’s be honest; this show’s been way more “Oh, that’s cool” than “Oh, what an interesting and delicate plot twist” from the beginning, so as long as this was sooorta creepy or sooorta cool, I would’ve been fine.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t much of either. A lot of stuff “happened,” as usual, but the stakes seemed particularly low, and the rash of endings/epilogues seemed less, I dunno, fun that what came before. But, like I said, who really cares? Fact is, this was a goofy and weird way to pass the last couple of months of the year, and the news regarding the show’s next season at least holds out the promise that next year’s story will be at least this entertaining. So, yeah, a bit of a bummer, swan song wise, but, whatever; this shit was pretty dumb to begin with.

So at this point, I’m pretty sure that

Terra Nova (season 1, episodes 12, 13) is my favorite show of all time. I mean, did you guys see that shit?! It was like 24-meets-Jurrasic-Park the movie! I realize that sounds terrible, and, yeah, it was, but, holy shit, it was great! People died,

dinosaurs ran around and shit was uber plot-twisty from the get go. I even thought the Officer Handsome wakes up after the attack scene was legitimately good, and not just in the way that the rest of this show is “good” (you know, the wait-is-this-really-happening-? way). This was big budget and new-element-introduce-y enough that I feel like we might get a second season, which would be hilarious and wonderful. But, if not, it’s been a weird and awesome run. Anyway, I loved every minute of this. I think something inside of me is broken.

Best of the Week - Hmmm. I guess I’m gonna go with the not-quite-season-finale of American Horror Story (season 1, episode 11). The big “serious” shows (Boardwalk Empire, Walking Dead) are done, so it’s sort of a charming-off here at the end of the year between this and Misfits. And while this is totally not charming in the usual sense of the word, it’s also charming as fuck with it’s uber-tropes and visual-cliche-overkill. It’s so ridiculous that it’s awesome, and I’m probably looking forward to a second season (in the “what are they gonna do?” sense) more than I am with any other show. And it’s not even over yet! Hey, look; I like something!!!

Worst of the Week - Well, Homeland was a bit of a let down, and Grimm seriously sucked on my balls, but this is my last chance to mention how brutally stupid Dexter (season 6, episode 12). Seriously, what the fuck? I can’t wait to see how much worse it gets next year.

So I hear that

Misfits (season 3, episode 8) is coming back for another season, which seems a little ridiculous considering just how last-episode-ever-y this particular season finale was. I mean, with all the major character deaths, past plotline revisitings and current plotline wrapping ups, what the fuck is left? At the very least, they’re gonna need an entirely new cast next year.

Regardless, this kinda ruled, much as it has all season. I’m still not really sold on this season being on par/better than older ones, but it’s still better than 90% of everything else that was on this year.

Uh, yeah, this was good. Watch this show. Shut up.

So if you’re gonna spend a lot of time

explaining what would happen if a guy’s head got blown off by a vest-bomb, then, well, you should probably blow that fuckers head off with said vest bomb. I’m looking at you, Homeland (season 1, episodes 9, 10, 11, 12)!! I mean, come on!!

Still, lack of severed heads notwhithstanding, this was pretty good. This is the first time I’ve done the devour-an-entire-season’s-worth-of-a-show-in-like-three-days thing in ages (cause, you know, I already watch everything), and, yeah, it was shamefully enjoyable. Also nice to see someone roll out an extra-long finale, even if the extra 30 minutes didn’t really add much.

This got a little stupid (memory loss via electro-shock?! This is supposed to be a GOOD 24, not just a 24) towards the end, so I can’t see it getting LESS stupid next year, but I will most certainly find out. I can’t wait to not tell you about it.
